Clean Up Tool

The Clean Up Tool removes loose vertices, wire edges, duplicated faces and zero-area faces from the whole mesh in one pass.

The Clean Up Tool removes the leftovers that pile up while modeling — loose vertices, wire edges with no face, duplicated faces stacked on the same spot, and zero-area faces — from the whole mesh in one pass.

They are hard to spot but cause real trouble later: shading artifacts, broken UV unwraps, bad exports and faces that flicker where two copies overlap.

How to use

  1. Launch the Clean Up Tool.

  2. Choose what to remove. Everything is on by default.

  3. Press CleanUp.

The result is reported in the Scene view — for example CleanUp: removed 12 vertices, 3 faces. — or CleanUp: nothing to remove. when the mesh is already clean. One Ctrl+Z undoes the whole cleanup.

Properties

Remove Loose Vertices

Removes vertices that belong to no edge.

Remove Wire Edges

Removes edges that belong to no face.

Remove Duplicate Faces

Removes faces that overlap another face at the same position, keeping one of them.

Match Faces By

Shown only while Remove Duplicate Faces is on. Decides when two faces count as duplicates.

  • Same Vertex — only faces built from the very same vertices. UVs are ignored (default)
  • Same Position — faces whose vertices sit at the same positions, even when they are separate vertices. UVs are ignored
  • Same UV — faces whose vertex positions and UVs all match

Start with Same Vertex. Use Same Position for geometry that was duplicated and never welded, and Same UV when faces at the same spot deliberately carry different UVs that you want to keep.

Remove Zero Area Faces

Removes degenerate faces whose area is effectively zero.

Tips

A single run decides everything from the state of the mesh when it starts. Removing wire edges can leave vertices loose that were not loose before — run CleanUp again to catch them.

Turn off any option you do not want touched. When every option is off, pressing CleanUp does nothing.
