Cylinder

A cylinder with a bottom cap, a top cap and a side wall.

Translation in progress — showing the English version.

Cylinder is a cylinder made of a bottom cap, a top cap and a side wall — columns, pipe bodies, wheels.

Geometry

Disk Segments divides the circumference and Height Segments divides the side wall vertically. The pivot is at the center of the bottom cap, so a cylinder of height h occupies y=0 to y=h.

Lowering Disk Segments turns it into a prism — 3 gives a triangular prism, 4 a box, 6 a hexagonal prism.

Parameters

LabelScript keyDefaultRangeDescription
Radiusr10.01 ~ 1000Radius in meters
Heighth1-1000 ~ 1000Height in meters
Disk Segmentsdisksegments123 ~ 128Divisions around the circumference
Height Segmentsheightsegments11 ~ 128Divisions along the height

When you need caps kept as a single n-gon face, use N-gon instead — it behaves better under later edits such as inset and bevel.

How to create

  1. Drag in empty space to set the radius of the bottom circle.

  2. Click to confirm, then move the mouse up to set the Height.

  3. Click again to finish.

Scene view editing

The ±X and ±Z handles drive Radius and the ±Y handles drive Height. Radius moves both sides at once, so pulling one handle changes the whole diameter.

Tips

To twist a column with the Twist modifier, raise Height Segments to 8 or more so the twist reads smoothly.

Script

In a script this shape is written as cylinder.

cylinder "Column" r=0.3 h=4 disksegments=24 heightsegments=8 @0,0,0
cylinder "Hexbolt" r=0.1 h=0.08 disksegments=6 @1,0,0
